A hot tub is one of the most difficult items to remove from a residential property. They weigh 400–800 kg empty, won't fit through most gates in one piece, and can't go in a standard bin rental. SturdyBee Junk Removal removes hot tubs throughout Metro Vancouver, cutting them up on-site with reciprocating saws when necessary and hauling every piece away.
How Hot Tub Removal Works
The hot tub removal process has a few steps that are important to plan for:
- Drain the hot tub before we arrive — fully empty of water. Most standard hot tubs drain via a hose bib; we can advise on the process if needed.
- Disconnect power — the electrical connection should be turned off and ideally disconnected at the panel or hot tub junction box. We do not provide electrical disconnection; consult a licensed electrician if you're unsure.
- Clear the access path — our crew needs to be able to reach the hot tub with tools and carry pieces to the truck. A 36" clear path is usually enough.
- We cut the tub — using reciprocating saws, we cut the hot tub into manageable sections (usually 3–5 pieces) that can be carried through gates and over fences where necessary.
- We load every piece — shell, foam insulation, cabinet, and mechanical components all go.
- We clean up the area after loading.
Pricing for Hot Tub Removal
Hot tub removal is a specialty job with a flat specialty surcharge in addition to the base load price. The surcharge reflects the extra labour, specialized tools, and extended time required compared to a standard pickup. The typical surcharge range is disclosed at booking based on the hot tub's location and accessibility.
A hot tub typically occupies roughly 2–4 cubic yards of truck space once cut up, placing it in the minimum to 1/4 load range for the base load price. The total cost is the load price plus the specialty surcharge. Call for a specific estimate.
Access Considerations
Hot tub removal access is the most important factor in the job. We need:
- Enough space around the hot tub to work safely with cutting tools
- A path to get pieces to the truck (over a fence, through a gate, or around the side of the house)
- A place to park our truck reasonably close to the property
What Happens to the Hot Tub
Hot tubs are made of fiberglass, acrylic shell, foam insulation, wood or composite cabinet material, and mechanical components (pump, heater, plumbing). The mechanical components are separated for appropriate disposal. The shell and foam material goes to a transfer station. Hot tubs are generally not reusable after disassembly.
